Valley Camp Values

Collaboration & “Minka”

We embrace the Andean belief of “Minka” which means working together with our community in Quechua, and therefore we value collaboration. We collaborate by asking the community what they want out of their Valley Camp experience, by working with many other organizations (local and abroad), and by depending on donations, a form of collaboration, to help our programs continue to flourish.

Exploration

We provide a safe space for staff and participants to explore who they are, who they want to be, their interests, and the beautiful world around them. Our aim is to encourage curiosity, inquiry, and play.

Equity

It is important to us that every aspect of our work is based on equity and accessibility. While we recognize each person as an individual with unique talents and interests to contribute, we work to assure that all our participants and staff feel safe and included in our community regardless of any differences. We also make sure our programs are accessible to all in terms of price.

Regeneration & “Sumaq Kawsay”

We support and learn from local leaders who work in a way that meets the needs of the present without having a negative impact on future generations, the environment, and the local community. Regeneration is an essential leading value of Valley Camp and informs everything that we do.

Valley Camp works with a team of passionate educators to inspire youth to think creatively, discover new interests, gain self confidence, and work as a team.

Valley Camp was founded in 2017 with the goal of providing outdoor experiences, developing leadership and teamwork skills, and broadening horizons for the children living in the Sacred Valley. We offered our first summer camp in January 2018 for 15 local children.

Since then we’ve continued to grow our summer camp and have served over 80 children, many returning every year. Valley Camp has also expanded to offer a variety of new programs year round focused on outdoor and environmental education in the Cusco Region.

Some of our highlights include supporting 135 students with school supplies during Covid pandemic lockdown, removing 500+ bags of trash from the Urubamba river via our volunteer clean up events, and providing scholarship places to 60% of campers!

Valley Camp works with a team of passionate educators to inspire youth to think creatively, discover new interests, gain self confidence, and work as a team. We love using camp as a tool to teach because it encourages kids to get out of their comfort zone, have fun while learning, cultivate curiosity, and develop leadership skills.

Valley Camp looks forward to continuing to offer community experiences that have a positive environmental and social impact!
