Valley Camp Peru at the Andes Race 2024
In August, Valley Camp Peru had the honor of participating in the Andes Race, a celebrated trail running event that draws athletes from across the globe to the breathtaking landscapes of the Peruvian Andes. The Andes Race offers participants an extraordinary opportunity to challenge themselves while immersing in the natural beauty and cultural richness of the Sacred Valley. With routes ranging from a grueling 100km ultramarathon to the dynamic 13km trail, the event celebrates the spirit of adventure and resilience.
Valley Camp Peru was thrilled to have four representatives in the 13km race. Two participants: Ronnie from Pitumarca, Jean Carlos from Yanahuara, and two staff: Rafael Rubio, and Cole York. This team showcased not only their individual dedication but also the ethos of Valley Camp—fostering leadership, perseverance, and connection to the outdoors.
Ronnie, a member of the Pitumarca Leadership Club and a camper at our Mountain School program, impressed everyone by finishing 4th in the race. His determination and hard work are a testament to the potential of the youth we work with, and his achievement inspired everyone in the Valley Camp community. Jean Carlos from Yanahuara participates in our Urubamba Leadership Club, also brought his Mountain School training to the race, demonstrating grit and focus throughout the demanding course.
Rafael, the instructor of the Urubamba Leadership Club, led by example, showing the young participants what it means to embrace challenges and overcome them. Finally, our founder and executive director, Cole York, joined the race, embodying her commitment to outdoor exploration and leadership development. Together, these four individuals represented Valley Camp Peru with pride, determination, and a shared passion for the mountains.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Andes Race organization for inviting us to participate in this special outdoor event. Their dedication to promoting outdoor sports and connecting people to the stunning landscapes of the Andes aligns with our mission at Valley Camp Peru. This collaboration has provided our team and our youth with an unforgettable experience, deepening their connection to nature and their communities.
Through events like the Andes Race, we continue to encourage our participants to push their limits, celebrate personal growth, and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the natural world. Congratulations to all runners, and thank you again to the Andes Race team for making this opportunity possible!
